Coaching Beyond Diet
Everyone who comes to me is looking to change something about their lives. Often, people want to know how better nutrition can help change their body physique or fitness - maybe how to deal with allergies or feel less bloated. In a nutshell, they usually come to me for dietary advice.
Why do we have these goals? Why do we want to become healthier, improve our diets and achieve physical wellness?
These are important questions, which I suspect have lots of different answers. For me though, health coaching is not just about our physical selves. Sure, it makes sense that a change in diet can have a radical effect on our bodies – but it's also just as important to take a step back and think about the effect on who we are, as a whole person.
In short, health is about more than just what we eat and how much we exercise. I believe challenges we face with our health can affect our mindset, mood and personality just as much as our physical bodies – and in turn, that health coaching is about our values, goals and life purpose as much as it is about our diet.
This is why a lot of my coaching sessions focus on the fact that, for most of us, there is no 'perfect way to be' - I certainly know I am no exception! If your goals aren't balanced or realistic, no change in diet will help you fulfil them.
I believe that a being a health coach is about much more than diet-science or calorie-counting. Quite often, it can be about having someone in your corner. Someone who understands your struggle, whether it is related to your diet, your health or your ability to fulfil your purpose.
In fact, probably the most important part of my role as a health coach is to help you set and achieve meaningful goals – and it's exactly what I love about being an Integrative Health Coach.
